What is Batik?

Batik is a traditional textile art form that involves dyeing fabric using a beeswax-resist technique. Originating from Indonesia, particularly Java, batik is characterized by intricate patterns and vibrant colors. The process begins by applying beeswax to the fabric with the copper stamp known as a tjap, which prevents dye from penetrating those areas. After dyeing, the wax is removed, revealing the original color of the fabric underneath and beautiful patterns..

Batik holds cultural significance in many countries, often used for clothing, home decor, and ceremonial purposes. The patterns can convey various meanings and are often inspired by nature, folklore, and local traditions. Today, batik is appreciated globally and is recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, but it is becoming extinct due to the difficulty in the process, and it is our job and duty to preserve this cultural heritage. We are the only place in the world that produces true batik tjap stamps with modern motifs, natural dye (from plants), and high-quality material.
